Levy Lorenzo at Cornell University has come up with an interesting way to create music... by rigging up a sound generator with a MIDI sequencer to a cage full of hamsters. 
Yep, hamsters. Six hamsters stacked one on top of the other in narrow cages trigger sensors as they meander back and forth. Each "voice" is controlled by two hamsters. One controls the pitch and the other controls the melody. The resulting music is, well, uh... well, let me just say that it sounds kinda Chinese and leave it at that.
Though truly an incredible exercise of creativity with technology and music, I don't think we'll be hearing this Twisted Krewe of Motley Hamsters jamming on XM Radio anytime soon. But, still veeeery interesting. The web page has lots of neat pictures. Click Here to see the complete article. |
